All I want for Easter is to save the Maui dolphins

I think that I will skip the chocolate egg post this Easter, I have posted enough Easter treats anyway, but I would love you to take a minute to read this, or a few minutes to watch this video.

NZ's tiny indigenous Maui's dolphin is on the brink of extinction. Maui's dolphins are the worlds smallest marine dolphin species – and the rarest. This month the Department of Conservation revealed that only around fifty five of these small dolphins exist. I repeat, only 55! And fishing nets are the number one threat. NIWA (National Institute for Water & Atmospheric Research) estimates that 110-150 Hector’s and Maui’s dolphins were killed in fishing nets each year between 2000 and 2006, that is a lot of dolphins! Unless substantial action is taken very soon, we will lose them forever.

If you like to learn more about the Dolphin Mayday please go to the NZ Greenpeace page and read this article Maui's Dolphin Mayday | GREENPEACE New Zealand

The New Zealand Government has proposed some interim action but it is not enough - if you are in New Zealand please sign this message to Primary Industries Minister David Carter now urging stronger action. We have until April 11 to sign the petition. And if you are in other countries you can sing the petition here, and here, spread the word, and even write to our NZ Minister of Tourism (who is also our Prime Minister) to let him know what you think (the email address is in the video).

Thank you and Happy Easter to all.

  13. Hi Alessandra, thanks so much for stopping by my blog and following. I couldn't reply back to your comment via email as no email address was left so wanted to let you know.. of course it's OK to pin my images and I'm very flattered and honoured that you would pin my blog to your pinterest. Thank you so much!

It's so great to meet you and check out your blog. Your books look amazing, I have just been looking on Amazon UK at the Party Food for Girls. I have 3 daughters so an ideal book for me so now safely awaiting my purchase in my wish list until funds permit. :) I see you're Italian too. I don't know any Italian but my best friend of approx. 27 years (known her since we were 4 years old!) is Italian, she makes great food too.

Have a wonderful Easter my friend.

    1. Hi Lisa, thank you for the message, and your interest in the book. I am sure that your girls will like it and will use it a lot. I have lots of comments from people who say "my daughter told me: today I am going to bake/make something from my book", or request dishes for their birthdays parties, and sometimes I get the photos too, which is so sweet :-).
I'll come and do a little pinning later on, thank you!

      Ciao
      Alessandra
