Sweet New Zealand, this is the end!

Well, we did get to 40 months of uninterrupted Sweet NZ blogging events, and I really would like to thank all the host and all the bloggers who took part. All your recaps are listed here!

But in the last year the interest has diminished, in part due to the fact that I have also been too busy to blog and therefore follow the event properly (i.e. writing to bloggers to encourage them to enter), and in part due to the fact that I am not the only busy person around! Many NZ bloggers stopped writing, or are writing less and less. Recently I attended the NZ Guild of Food Writers conference and I was a bit sad to hear that the general perspective in the industry that the NZ Food blogging scene is, basically, negligible. I am not sure if this is true or not (what do you think?) and I like to think that there are still many bloggers out there that update regularly and keep a conversation going, but I am also sure that Sweet NZ is not sustainable anymore, and so I have decided to stop at 40. Thank you to Frances and Arfi who supplied the last recipes for this edition, here is a quick recap:

Raw, vegan and gluten free sweet for Christmas? Homemade marzipan From Only Recipes

Yorkshire curd tart by Frances from the Bake Club

Chocolate and plum mousse with Italian meringue base and Fresh As plum powder from Alessandra Zecchini

Strawberries with orange and cinnamon, by Alessandra Zecchini

  1. Sorry to see Sweet NZ end, Alessandra, but it was a great idea and I've discovered many cool NZ blogs over the last 3 years and have subscribed so can keep up with their posts. If only I had the time to try all the recipes... May the Bake Be With You, grazie Frances.

  3. That is a real shame, Alessandra but I understand - sometimes life takes over. I've had a lot of fun seeing the round up each month and I suppose now is an opportunity to catch up on all the great recipes!

  4. dear Alessandra, some time ago I also had a period where I could not stand more to update the blog (more than one to be honest) and I moved away for a while '. I thought forever. Instead it was a liberating act, confirming that "I can stop whenever I want" and I was very relieved, so that later, with a little 'less commitments, I'm back. Since then, I pause for some periods, such as when I'm busy with conferences. If you are giving so much to one side, it is not mandatory to give so much even on the other, in fact, it is healthy to continue to be of normal people that when they have too many commitments must give priority to priority. A big hug!

p.s raw vegan marzipan... wow!!! *_*

    1. Ciao Grazia, yes there is a time for everything, and nothing wrong with stopping and/or brakes. Anyway, I only stopped the Sweet NZ event, not the blog, although I definitely spend less time blogging (and unfortunately visiting other blogs) due to lack of time.

  5. Thank you Alessandra for all the Sweet NZ posts and your reminders - it has been enjoyable. Not sure if I agree with the Guild's perspective that the NZ Food blogging scene is negligible. There seems to be more and more blogs. Perhaps this dilutes the overall effect, I don't know. I still enjoy blogging but I do it when I want to rather than make it a weekly chore. We do seem to have lost our food blogging groups - it felt far more social and a sense of belonging when we went to those two food conferences.

    1. Very interesting Lesley, In a way I think that they may be more 'blogs' but less 'bloggers'. Many food writers do have blogs now but do not considers themselves as 'bloggers', and there are also many company and magazine blogs (you read the blog but you feel like there is not a 'blogger' behind).

  6. Like you Alessandra life has gotten so busy! But agree with Lesley - so many bloggers now!
And like Lesley, increasingly I do it when I feel like it & enjoy it rather than it become what sometimes can feel like a weekly chore!
And yes do miss the conferences! They were sooo much fun!

  7. Yes I miss the conferences too, and don't like the 'chore' factor, although I believe in 'blogger discipline', which is hard to maintain, especially if a blog is only a hobby and time is scarce.
