Berry Xmas

One of the best things about Christmas down-under must be the fruit! Or at least, for me! Red fruit and berries are so festive, and and instant dessert as well as a table decoration.

This month we have strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries and plums. I have a few strawberries in my garden, but every night a rat or a opossum eat a few! Grrrr! The plums come from the orchard down the road, one of the last Croatian orchards in West Auckland, the Dragisovich. These are the Wilson Early plums, delicious!

Mostly we eat fruit as it is, but Saturday night I had guests so I dressed some strawberries with lemon juice and sugar: 2 punnets of strawberries, juice of half a lemon and 2 tbsp of sugar.

I let them marinate for 3-4 hours, and then served them with their juice. You can add cream if you like.

Sorry about the photo, it was late at night and I was rushing to bring the food on the table. This must be the easiest dessert ever!

  7. 13 years and still I find it strange to have Xmas in Summer, more now that I am blogging and looking at the dishes of the North... but I guess it must seem even more strange to some of you! :-)

  8. Those little berry Christmas trees are so cute !
Even if I appreciate the charm of having Christmas in winter, I simply love to celebrate it in Summer- maybe because I was raised this way...
