Spring, flowers, and quinoa

I like flowers.

Flowers in my garden, to decorate the statues.

Flowers to use for work.

Flowers of sugar, made by Arantxa to use for a school project.

Flowers in my quinoa

Quinoa with flowers

1 cup quinoa
2 cups water
1 small carrot
1 small cucumber
1 bunch onion weed (or spring onions)
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
juice from half a lemon
salt and pepper to taste
edible flowers

Cook one cup of quinoa with two cups of water for 20 minutes. In the meantime chop very finely a small carrot, a small cucumber and a bunch of onion weeds (or spring onions). Put the still hot quinoa into a serving bowl, add two tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, the chopped vegetables, the juice of half a lemon and salt and pepper to taste. This dish can be served warm or cold (yes, even if it has cucumber it can be served warm!). Just before serving add edible flowers: I used onion weed flowers, marigold, violets and bok choy flowers.

  1. Oh are enjoying your Spring! While our leaves are falling.
Your sugar flowers are stunning. Hugs for a great weekend.

    1. My daughter made the sugar flowers, she is doing two terms of cooking at school and the assignment this term was cupcakes! Lucky her, I never had a chance to do cupcakes at school!

  7. Having such interesting school projects almost makes you want to go back to school again, doesn't it?! Or maybe not!! Quinoa looks healthy and delicious!!

  8. I don't think that I would like to go to school again, especially here where you wear uniforms :-). Still, they do have some interesting subjects!

  9. It's so lovely that you can use the beautiful flowers from your garden. I have never heard of quinoa. I will have to explore.

  10. The sugar flowers are beautiful Alessandra, clever daughter! I like to present dishes with fresh garnishes but sadly don't have the patience for real art

  11. The flowers just finish the dishes of so perfectly. Have a good week Diane

  12. Nice Recipe with fresh flower decoration. Feeling so excited to try this one. i thought flowers can only be gifted or used for decoration. You gave a new avenue with fresh flowers.
