Frittelle di castagne

This was my last batch of chestnut flour (pity!) and I made the chestnut fritters that I always ate as a child in Italy. When I say always I mean every week in Autumn and Winter (and sometimes every day), I ate so many that for many years I didn't miss them, but now they are a special treat, as I need to source the flour in Italy!

The best thing about these fritters is that chestnut flour is naturally sweet, so no sugar is needed. Also these are vegan and gluten free, all you need is chestnut flour, water, sultana (optional) and some oil for frying. You can find the recipe here, if you can get some chestnut flour, that is :-). And if you do find it in New Zealand, please let me know!!

  4. I remember being intrigued when you wrote once about chestnut flour a long time ago. I've still never come across any in New Zealand, but I would love to try these if I ever find it.

My post and linky for Sweet New Zealand is now open - you can find it here http://couscous-consciousness.blogspot.co.nz/2013/06/sweet-new-zealand-23.html

Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

    1. Alessandra, just stopped by again to tell you I was shopping at the Mediterranean Food Company in Christchurch today and came across chestnut flour. I've snapped some up so that I can give this a try. They do have an online shop, cut I can't see chestnut flour anywhere, but I'm sure if you phoned or emailed them you would be able to get them to send you some. You can check out their website here: http://www.mediterraneanfoods.co.nz/index.php
