Yes I know, I keep publishing cupcakes, but hey, I love them!! And this idea works so well I really wanted to share it! The fact is that the figs of the old tree up our driveway are always too small to make an "impression". They are nice, but never big and juicy and even if they get that way (the ones on the top branches that get all the sun) the birds get to them, not me! So I usually cook them in a cake, but this idea is prettier! Make you favourite vanilla cupcake batter (I use this one - but without the pine nuts), and then fill the cupcake cases only half way up. Insert a whole (small and firm) washed fig in each one and the bake. At the end you can just sprinkle with icing sugar. I can assure you that you will be pleased!

ReplyDeleteI miss figs from Italy though, always so big and with a very think skin, both the green and the purple ones... and sweet... so much sweeter than here. It must be the climate and soil!

ReplyDeleteI will experiment with other fruit, I did cherries, (whole, with the stalk) but it is a pity that there is a stone, Cape gooseberries are good too but small (a bit like using other berries) while figs work so well, and even if I forgot to take a photo of the cupcakes open, you can imagine when you bite into them the centre is lovely and red!

For all my books and magazines and work I use a photographer, I work with several, if there is a photo by a photographer (like in the page 'Magazine') I always cite the name of the photographer. The rest here on the blog are just snap shots :-).
DeleteIn genere mi piacciono molto i cupcakes per le loro decorazioni ma non riuscirei mai o quasi a mangiarli con tanta pasta di zucchero o creme pesanti. Questi invece potrei farli sparire molto velocemente. In piĆ¹ adoro i fichi freschi :) Golosi e delicati. Un bacione

I am mad for figs at the moment too - I am raiding my neighbours tree, which has nice fruit (but not as good as the beautiful figs I had in Greece last year - just don't think it gets hot enough here). There is still enough fruit on the tree for me to try these cupcakes.
